The party descends into the sewer - it is smelly, wet, and unpleasant. Entering the first corridor, they encounter Victor, a fancy, ahem, human, a man of science and patron of the arts, with titles and a long formal name. Before he introduces himself as such, the party, and Victor, are attacked by a skeletal ooze!
After defeating the creature, and getting Victor’s introduction (which Yessimir and Nymmestra instantly clock as deceit), the party moves further into the sewer. They encounter several obstacles - a trap set by the rats above, a gap that needed to be crossed, an ambush from a hungry sewer croc, and the ensnaring web of a mysterious hunter.
These obstacles do not keep them from their mission, and, despite getting soaked with sewer water, and collecting more badges from dead night-watchmen (RIP), they press on. A magically sealed door draws their interest, but nothing can be done about it….yet….
They meet Winthrog, the friendly and bookish Otyguh. After a brief dialogue (with no help from Yessimir, who doesn’t understand that Winthrog can speak common), they learn that Winthrog, with the help of the Rat King, sealed away an ooze that had begun displaying physic power - in an effort to protect themselves. They were not affected by it’s physic power, and thusly did not know about the ooze’s effect on the townspeople. The party trades the book given to Nymmestra from Arta for one of two seals for the magic door that keeps the Bellowing Ooze locked up - the other is owned by the Rat King.
Before leaving, Fauna helps stabilize an unconscious, but still alive, night-watchman - and ends their fever by using corn-wine to sterilize their infected wound (that Winthrog accidentally made worse by cleaning it with water from the sewer, in an effort to clean the wound).
On the way to the Rat King, the party encounters a rusty door, that Elvira accidentally falls through when it gives way easier than expected. A rust monster emerges from the hole she made and attacks Victor -which exposes him for what he truly is - a combination of machine and vegetation - a Warforged of some sort.
In the fight, Victor is badly wounded as the Rust Monster attacks his face, draining his life force. He uses a catapult artifact to launch his dagger, and the Rust Monster, upwards. Eventually, the Rust Monster is defeated.
After, Victor assures the party he means no harm. Fauna and Nymmestra use their magic to disperse the Rust-Dust in the hallway that housed the Rust Monster. Despite initially furious at the party for the way Yessimir yelled (using Speak with Animals) at his rat minions, a successful deceit show of diplomacy, also by Yessimir, convinces the Rat King to hand over his key-scroll, and the party returns to the magically sealed door to fight the Bellowing Ooze! It tries to hide and move through the grating in the floor, summoning ooze minions to attack for it, but a stun from Nymmestra and some quick thinking oil-fire from Fauna make quick work of it!
After returning to Marenna, the party is promised their pay when everyone gets a good nights sleep - proof of the death of the Bellowing Ooze. They clean up and get ready for tomorrow; the conclusion of the “Battle of The Brews”! ….. And before the day is done, Yessimir recruits the party (with gold and wine) to serve as his bounty hunters to find the missing princess….to bring her back to his desert kingdom…peacefully, of course…..
